Dominion To Sell Its Appalachian E&P Business
March 17, 2010 (FinancialWire) — Dominion (NYSE: D) said it has agreed to sell its natural gas and oil exploration and production business to a newly-formed subsidiary of Consol Energy (NYSE: CNX), for a total of $3.475 billion.
The transaction includes the rights to around 491,000 acres in the Marcellus formation.
Dominion said that its decision to sell its E&P business came as a result of the company’s existing plan to monetize its Marcellus acreage, either in multiple transactions or all at once.
The company is affirming its 2010 operating earnings guidance of $3.20 to $3.40 per share.
Virginia-based Dominion is a producer and transporter of energy, with a portfolio of more than 27,500 megawatts of generation, 12,000 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline and 6,000 miles of electric transmission lines. Dominion serves retail energy customers in 12 states.
