Google awards women engineers
Feb 27, 2010 (PRN): Google India today announced the winners of the third 'Google India Women in Engineering Award' in a ceremony at its Hyderabad office. The award recognizes women students in Computer Science and its related majors and aims to inspire them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology. This year, applications were invited from women engineering students across under-graduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs across 80 colleges in the country, which includes IITs and BITS Pilani etc.
Google received over 200 applications, from engineering schools across the country. An internal team of engineers and product managers read through the anonymised essays and assessed the overall quality of the applications to arrive at a shortlist of the 24 finalists and 8 award winners.
The awards were given away at the Google India Women in Engineering Awards Conclave, 2010, which was held in Hyderabad. All the 24 finalists had an action packed schedule with tech-talks and engineering problems to solve at the conclave.
