As reported by BBC News, Asbestos Training and Consultancy Association report states that the 16 schools surveyed failed to adhere to outlined health and safety rules. As noted in the report, the government policy calls for schools to leave asbestos undisturbed, yet managed. Due to purported insufficient resources to properly manage it, many schools opt to have it removed, which is said to put students and workers at risk. A reported 178 teachers have died from illnesses associated with asbestos exposure from schools in Britain.
