Asbestos purportedly not a risk to Libby school children

Mesothelioma Cancer News provides news and information for Montana asbestos attorneys. Libby, Montana (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – The Environmental Protection Agency recently announced the levels of asbestos in and surrounding schools in Libby were significantly lower than in prior years. As reported by The Western News, the EPA suggested school children in the area were not at risk at the decreased levels. EPA Toxicologist David Berry is quoted in the report as stating of the findings during a public meeting held this week, “The first, probably most important question is, is it OK to send my children to school here in Libby, and I think the answer is yes… Levels that were detected in the activity-based sampling were within acceptable exposure levels as evidence and used at other Superfund sites in the United States.” As noted in the report, some attendees at the meeting were left questioning the findings due to the method used for testing, which does not provide actual numbers for toxicity levels.
