Will Democrats Move Forward With Healthcare Bill?
January 26, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Although they lost their filibuster-proof supermajority in the Senate, Democrats could still advance the healthcare bill.
In a maneuver called budget reconciliation, Democrats could push the legislation through Congress with a simple majority vote, but the biggest risk the party faces is backlash from Republicans for what will be perceived as "parliamentary trickery."
Also, the House could simply vote to approve the Senate-passed healthcare bill and send that bill to Obama to sign, but in doing so, the House would be unable to negotiate the provisions of the Senate bill, which included federal aid exclusive to Nebraska.
