Smit To Head Cable Operations At Comcast
January 25, 2010 (FinancialWire) — Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ: CMCSA) has hired Neil Smit as the president of Comcast Cable Communications. Smit will report to Steve Burke, chief operating officer of Comcast. He will be responsible for all business aspects of the company’s cable operations.
Smit joins Comcast from Charter Communications, where he served as chief executive officer and director since 2005. Prior to joining Charter, Smit was the president of Time Warner’s (NYSE: TWX) America Online Access Business overseeing Internet access services, including America Online, CompuServe and Netscape ISPs.
He also served at AOL as executive vice president, Member Services, and chief operating officer of MapQuest. Smit also was a regional president with Nabisco and served in a number of management positions at Pillsbury.
Philadelphia-based Comcast is principally involved in the development, management and operation of cable systems and in the delivery of programming content. The company has 23.8 million cable customers, 15.7 million high-speed Internet customers, and 7.4 million Comcast Digital Voice customers.
