Nov 2, 2009 (PRN): Mark Needham of Widget UK Ltd has been named as the East of England’s Entrepreneur of the Year in this year’s British Chambers of Commerce Awards.

Widget UK Ltd impressed regional judges with its instinctive ability to capitalise on new trends. The specialist distributor of mobile computing equipment sells products including the popular Tom Tom personal navigation devices and the Flip Video range, now a Cisco Consumer product.

John Dunsmure, Managing Director of the British Chambers of Commerce said: “Despite the difficult economic climate, businesses across the country are continuing to succeed, overcoming obstacles by adopting innovative ideas and motivating their people. This company is a great example of the very best of UK business.”

At the same time, Widget was ranked as company number 38 in the 2009 Technology Fast 50 awards, an independent ranking of the UK’s fastest growing technology companies by accountants Deloitte.

“Because the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 measures sustained revenue growth over five years, being one of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the UK is an impressive achievement," said David Halstead, Deloitte Technology partner for the Cambridge Region. "Widget UK Ltd deserves a lot of credit for its remarkable growth."

The company has also been shortlisted for two further awards to be announced in November.

i) The Specialist Distributor of the Year Awards at the Computer Reseller News Channel Awards 2009.

ii) The New Product of the Year award at the Growing Business Awards, organised by the CBI and Real Business magazine, for its launch of the Flip Mino HD Video camera.
