Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Pakistan Muslim League (N) parliamentary leader, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in a furious statement to the reporters on the issue of former President Pervaiz Musharraf’s safe exit said, President Zardari’s statement might mean, that the ‘safe exit’ for Musharraf and installation of Mr Zardari as president were part of the same deal.’ ‘What room has he (Zardari) left for parliament when as PPP (co-)chairperson he signed the deal with international powers to provide safe exit to Musharraf?’

He added, ‘The PML-N wants the president and the government to apprise the nation and parliament of motives behind the deal.’

Musharraf denies using US military aid to strengthen forces against India

Washington (Dawn.com): Former Pakistani President who is in the US on a 40 days lecture tour, denied allegation levied by the Indian media and the Indian leaders that the former Pakistani government has used US military aid to strengthen its arms against India. The Indian media reports Musharraf’s statement from an interview aired through local Pakistani channel. Musharraf denying the accusations said, ‘No question was asked regarding US funds for fighting the militants in this interview or at any other time.’ ‘I have never said Pakistan violated any agreement.’

Democratic Pakistan needs strengthening - Pledges made in this connection must be honored - UN Secretary General

United Nations (Dawn.com): The UN Secretary General, while taking to the press stated that Pledges made by the “Friends of Democratic Pakistan” must be honored. He said, ‘Now, it was important to focus on how those funds would be disbursed. It was also important to get the donors to carry through on their commitments.’

Friends of Democratic Pakistan are scheduled to meet at the side line of UN General Assembly session.

New Anti Terrorism law strengthens law enforcing agencies and courts to curb terrorism

Peshawar (Dawn.com): ‘We are living in a changed environment. The new environment has thrown some new challenges and it has emerged that the existing anti-terror law is inadequate and too weak to deal with the new challenges,’ said a senior government official, while speaking about the changes in the Anti terrorism law.

Citing the difficulties the Pakistani government is introducing major changes in the anti-terrorism law, thus strengthening the arms of the law enforcing agencies and the courts to curb militancy and terrorism.

Stocks at Karachi Stock Exchange roll into negative zone

Karachi (Business Recorder): Stock Exchange moved in to minus zone immediately after start of trading session and by mid day the stock lost 108 points. Caution and selective buying in the later part of the day resulted in the recovery of the market but the market closed in negative mode with 45.81 less from the previous day. The KSE-100 index stood a 9,029.45 points.
