Washinton (Dawn.com): The new chief of Tehrik-i-Taliban (Pakistan) ‘Hakeemullah Mehsud’ who took over the responsibility of reorganizing Pakistan faction of Taliban is belived to have died. He might have been killed by his rivals inside the Taliban ranks, believes US. ‘We’re pretty clear that we think he’s dead,’ said a US defense official.

The US official added that, ‘The point is there is a succession crisis going on.’ ‘There’s a variety of factions within the Mehsud tribe.’

Army Chief’s meeting with the Punjab Chief Minister being kept a secret

Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Pakistan Army Chief met the Punjab chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif during the mid night of Sept. 30 and October 1, 2009. His arrival at the Islamabad Airport was witnessed and confirmed by the airport officials. He reached the Punjab house without any protocol where he was joined by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. Both of them where wisked away to the Army house to meet General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kyani.

The agenda of their meeting was not made public. The sources inside the Pakistan Muslim League (N) have denied any such meeting.

President Zardari amends Anti Terrorism act of 1997 - more powers give to investigators

Islamabad (Dawn.com): An amendment to the Anti Terrorism Act 1997 was inked by the Pakistani President to extend more powers to the investegators to hold the terror suspects from 15 to 90 days. The Act promulgates, ‘Any person who has been concerned in any offence under this act or against whom a reasonable complaint has been made or credible information has been received, or a reasonable suspicion exists of his having been so concerned, the government may issue order of his preventive detention, for a period not exceeding 90 days, and which shall not be challenged in any court, for the purposes of inquiry, specifying reasons and grounds thereof.’
