September 16, 2009, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Borders Group, Inc. (NYSE: BGP ) has appointed Michael J. Edwards Executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. His appointment follows the departure of Anne Kubek, who joined Borders Group in 1990 and most recently served as EEVP of merchandising and marketing.

Most recently, Edwards served as president andCEO of Ellington Leather, a Portland, Oregon-based leather handbags and accessories wholesaler with products sold through specialty stores. From 2004 through 2007, Edwards was president and CEO for lucy Activewear, which is also headquartered in Portland.

In his new role Edwards will report to Borders Group CEO Ron Marshall and be responsible for developing and executing merchandising and marketing strategies. He will lead teams responsible for buying and merchandising, inventory allocation and control, supply chain, customer relationship management.

Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Borders Group is a retailer of books, music and movies that operates more than 1,000 stores primarily under the Borders and Waldenbooks brand names.
