Cardiovascular Systems Inks U.S. Distribution Deal With Asahi Intecc
August 28, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Medical device firm Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSII) (Current Market Cap: $122.41 Mil.) said it has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Japan-based Asahi Intecc Co., Ltd. to market its peripheral guide wire line in the United States.
company CEO David L. Martin said, “The addition of Asahi guide wires expands our product portfolio and reinforces our leadership position in the peripheral arterial disease, or PAD, market.”
He added that Asahi peripheral guide wires address long, complex lesions above or below the knee, and complement the plaque removal capabilities of Cardiovascular’s Diamondback 360° product.
Diamondback 360o is sold as a minimally invasive catheter system for treating PAD. PAD is caused by the accumulation of plaque in leg or foot arteries, which reduces blood flow. Cardiovascular’s Diamondback 360o is meant to remove calcified and fibrous plaque and restore blood flow in vessels both below and above the knee.
St. Paul, Minnesota-based Cardiovascular Systems is a medical device company focused on developing and commercializing interventional treatment systems for vascular disease. In August 2007, the U.S. FDA granted 510(k) clearance for the use of the Diamondback 360° as a therapy for PAD.
