Entropic Collaborating With Intel Digital Home Group

(NASDAQ: ENTR), a provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment is joining forces with the Intel Digital Home Group at the CableLabs(r) Summer Conference 2009 in Keystone, Colo., to showcase the world’s first demonstration of the newly ratified Universal Plug and Play Quality of Service 3.0 specification over MoCA(r) on a set-top box platform.

The demonstration utilizes Entropic’s EN2510 single-chip, coaxial network controller and RF transceiver, which is based on the MoCA 1.1 standard and the Intel Media Processor CE 3100 system-on-a-chip based on the company’s popular Intel(r) architecture.

UPnP is an international standard for device interoperability on IP networks. UPnP QoS 3.0 is a new specification that defines a framework for policy-based parameterized Quality of Service, essentially bridging the gap between service provider and broadband network solutions to provide end-to-end management of user devices within the home.

The demonstration will showcase Entropic’s EN2510 single-chip, coaxial network controller and RF transceiver, which is optimized for MoCA 1.1 applications and capable of delivering up to 175 Mbps throughput by using the CE 3100 SoC that features a powerful processor core with leading-edge A/V processing that can play 1080p video and serve up 3-D graphics with up to 7.1 surround sound. Additionally, a server streaming video to multiple client devices along with a traffic generator to simulate additional network traffic will be featured. Using the newly ratified UPnP QoS 3.0 specification, parameterized QoS flows will be set up for one of the video streams thus guaranteeing its bandwidth. The non-guaranteed stream will suffer degradation as the network traffic is increased. This demonstration will be the first in the world to show these capabilities using set-top box reference platforms.
