Universal Display Wins $750,000 Air Force Contract
July 2, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Universal Display Corp. (NASDAQ: PANL) has been awarded a $750,000 contract from the United States Air Force Research Laboratory to help design a flexible display as a replacement for printed maps and checklists typically held by Air Force pilots on their knees in tactical cockpits.
The company will work on a program that will focus on the development of a non-glass, ejection-safe, flexible OLED display prototype for prospective use by pilots in tactical cockpit settings.
Universal Display, in collaboration with L-3 Communications and LG Display, will develop a flexible phosphorescent OLED display prototype designed to be energy efficient, offer full-color video rate and have wireless communications capabilities.
The display will have the capability to be wrapped around a cylinder for easy storage during flight.
Ewing, New Jersey-based Universal Display develops and commercializes OLED technologies and materials for use in flat panel displays, solid-state lighting products, electronic communications and other opto-electronic devices.
