Raytheon Wins $6 Million DARPA Contract
June 25, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN) said it has been awarded contract worth up to $6 million to develop nano thermal interface materials to improve the thermal performance of advanced defense electronics systems.
The three-phase, 45-month Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency program uses engineered nanomaterials to provide significant reductions in the thermal resistance between interface layers found in electronic assemblies.
According to Raytheon, these performance improvements will translate into smaller, lighter, more affordable and more capable defense systems.
Waltham, Massachusetts-based Raytheon specializes in defense, homeland security and other government markets. The company provides electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing, effects, command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a range of mission support services.
