Tyco Electronics Sells Wireless Systems Unit
June 2, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Tyco Electronics Ltd. (NYSE: TEL) has completed the sale of its wireless systems business to Harris Corp (NYSE: HRS). The company has received cash proceeds of around $675 million from the sale.
The unit develops large-scale critical communications systems based on Internet Protocol technology for customers in the public safety, utility, transit and public service industries.
Tyco said that the sale of the business will increase its focus on its core connectivity business and substantially completes a streamlining of the company’s portfolio that was begun two years ago.
Bermuda-based Tyco Electronics is a provider of engineered electronic components, network solutions, undersea telecommunication systems and specialty products.
