Former IBM Partner Named Chief Information Officer At Borders Group

May 26, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Borders Group, Inc. (NYSE: BGP) (Current Market Cap: US$145.11 Mil.) has named Scott Laverty as chief information officer. He was formerly a partner with IBM (NYSE: IBM) for two years, where he was the SAP retail practice leader for the U.S. and directed programs for cosmetic and optical retailers.

From 2001 through 2006, Laverty was a senior manager with Deloitte Consulting, where he conducted IT project management for retailers. Laverty also served as a principal consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was project manager for a number of retail clients.

In a related move, Borders named Paul Devitt as director of e-commerce systems. Devitt was formerly senior manager of e-commerce technologies at consumer electronic retailer Circuit City. From 2001 through 2006, Devitt worked for Capital One in a range of management roles including leading IT teams within operations, risk management and information security.

At Borders, Devitt oversees the design, architecture and implementation efforts for the company’s e-commerce systems.

Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Borders Group is a retailer of books, music and movies with around 1,000 stores and over 25,000 employees.
