Walgreens Buys 31 Drug Fair Stores
May 11, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Walgreen Co. (NYSE: WAG) (NASDAQ: WAG) has completed the acquisition of 31 Drug Fair stores in central and western New Jersey. The closure follows an agreement reached in March associated with Drug Fair’s Chapter 11 process. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
In addition, Walgreens has purchased the prescription files for two of the Drug Fair locations.
Walgreens said it also expects to complete transactions for two additional Drug Fair locations in the upcoming weeks.
Deerfield, Illinois-based Walgreens operates 6,783 drugstores in 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
