Kingdom Election Office Blasts Akaka Bill And OHA

Honolulu, Hawaii (MMD Newswire) May 4, 2009 -- At a recent meeting of Hawaiian independence proponents Richard Kamahele Figueroa, Director of the Kingdom of Hawaii National Election Office, took issue with the Akaka Bill now pending in the U.S. Congress and with the State of Hawaii's Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA). Mr Figueroa noted " The Akaka bill puts Native Hawaiians under the supervision of the U.S. Department of the Interior just as if we are an American Indian Tribe and we all know what a disaster that has been for the American Indians--unkept promises, poverty and the inevitable loss of national identity".

Mr Figueroa further noted that the Office of Hawaiian Affairs has set a conference for May 30th with the groups and individuals active in the independence movement "to see how we can work together". "This is but another do nothing attempt to placate and confuse Native Hawaiians " Mr. Figueroa noted, "Since 1991 OHA has held meetings, conferences and conventions, but absolutely nothing ever comes of them, there's always a reason given for OHA's unkept pomises, but nothing ever happens and Native Hawaiians continue to sink further into poverty and loss of our national identity."

" Whether its the Akaka legislation or OHA", Mr Figueroa stated, "their purpose is to find a way to give Native Hawaiians "independence" by giving us an illusion of sovereignty over the 1.5 million acres known as the "Ceded Lands" which represents only a small part of our islands".

"The facts are clear and indisputable and are set forth in the November 23, 1993 "Apology Resolution" of the U. S. Congress", he stated,"The Kingdom of Hawaii was granted independence by Great Britain in 1843, we were a constitutional monarchy with a legislature, courts, a land title system and were recognized by countries around the world as a sovereign nation; indeed many countries including the U.S. exchanged ambassadors and entered into various treaties with our country."

" In 1893 5 American citizens, not Hawaiian citens, including the U. S. minister to Hawaii, aided by a contingent of U.S. marines, overthrew our government and imprisoned our Monarch. Since 1893 the United states has been the illegal "Colonial Occupier" of our nation. Under the United Nations' resolutions of 1947, supported by the U.S., Colonial Occupier countries were to free their colonial possessions and to administrate elections for this pupose; the U.S. has ignored the U.N. resolutions.

" We want our nation restored and to excercise sovereignty and governance over the Hawaiian Archipelago, nothing else is acceptable to our people. We will do this in the upcoming National elections by adopting a modern "Restoration Constitution", and electing a President and Vice President and members of our Parliament" Mr. Figueroa stated, "We look forward to becoming a member of the United Nations and to establishing mutually beneficial relationships with the United States, including continued statehood if that is the wish of our people".
