The school’s health and sciences building reopened this week following testing for asbestos concerns. Mesothelioma Cancer News – Santa Fe College reopened their Health Sciences Building W on their northwest campus this week after closing it for asbestos testing. As reported by Gainsville.com, the campus building was shut down on Friday after concerns were expressed regarding asbestos being possibly contained in the flooring. Plans to replace the flooring in some classrooms were halted pending the results of the tests. Traces of asbestos were not found in air or dust samples taken from the building. A spokesperson for the college Larry Keen is said in the report to state the testing cost approximately $15,000 and were conducted by EMSL Analytical Inc. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can lead to serious conditions such as mesothelioma cancer if its fibers or dust are inhaled.
