Carbon Credit Financing planned for Ecuadorian Reforestation project
Under the terms of the Agreement, Andean Carbon and FONAG plan to work together in a partnership to reforest up to 120,000 acres of the Andean Highlands. The city of Quito's water supply is threatened due to the massive deforestation that has taken place in the Andean Highlands surrounding the city which serves as its watershed. The partnership plans to employ the poverty stricken people of the region to reforest the highlands in an effort to retain the moisture. The planting of the tree's will gradually sequester a significant amount of carbon dioxide which can be quantified, monetized and used to finance the entire project.
In signing the Agreement, Christopher Werner, Founder and CEO of the Company commented, "Quito's water supply has been diminished with the systematic deforestation of its watershed. We plan to employ the indigenous people from the local community to reforest their highlands. These trees will generate a carbon credit which can be used to finance the project. This bio-diverse project is truly a win, win, win situation. The project will create jobs, protect a vital water supply and cleanse the environment of damaging greenhouse gases."
Andean Carbon is a Wisconsin Corporation with management offices in Kohler, Wisconsin and Quito, Ecuador.
