The S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq Composite all closed slightly down on Friday, with shifts of about 1% or less tallied for all three indices. The Nasdaq logged the day's best performance, closing down only 0.48% (7.35 points), while the S&P closed down exactly 1% (8.35 points) and the Dow finished down 1.04% (82.35 points). The NYSE Composite's performance also marked a similar negative shift, ending Friday down 0.945% (49.69 points).
The intra-day range of change for all four indices was between about 1.5% to 2.5% percent on Friday. The day's trading ranges were led by the Dow at 2.453% (194.58 points), followed by the NYSE at 1.711% (89.95 points), the S&P at 1.703% (14.22 points) and the Nasdaq at 1.461% (22.52 points). The Dow's -1.53% (-121.38-point) intra-day bottom edged-out the other three indexes' low points during Friday's session. During the day, negative movement for the S&P bottomed at -1.195% (-9.98 points), while the NYSE hit -1.154% (-60.64 points) and the Nasdaq dipped the least at -0.756% (-11.66 points). The Dow also marked the highest intra-day upward tick on Friday at +0.923% (+73.20 points), followed by the NASDASQ at +0.704% (+10.86 points), the NYSE at +0.558% (29.31 points) and the S&P at 0.508% (4.24 points).
Friday's closing totals were 1,534.36 for the Nasdaq, 5206.76 for the NYSE, 826.84 for the S&P, and 7,850.41 for the Dow.

Closing totals for the FTSE NASDAQ 500 and the Russell 3000 were also marginally negative on Friday, with the Russell finishing down 0.918% (4.43 points) to end the day at 478.33, and the FTSE finishing down 0.603% (24.28 points) to end the day at 4,004.19. Friday's intra-day range of change for the Russell was 1.729% (8.23 points) while the FTSE varied by 1.474% (59.22 points) on the day. For the two indexes, intra-day upward ticks for both were virtually identical, with the FTSE ticking upward by +0.611% (+24.46 points) and the Russell's highest tick for the day reaching +0.610% (+2.92 points). The low end of the day's trading was led by the Russell at -1.119% (-5.40 points), followed by the FTSE at -0.863% (-34.76 points).
