The Piranha Syndrome by Howard Holschuh is the fictitious story of the mysterious turn of events that happen during a couple’s vacation aboard a cruise ship
HUDSON, OHIO -- December 3, 2008 -- The Piranha Syndrome, a book by 30-year Navy veteran Howard Holschuh, is a novel about three vacationing couples on a cruise down the Amazon River and their efforts to uncover the truth of the homicides that occur.
According to Holschuh, most piranhas won’t attack unless they are provoked. Each character reacts much like the piranha as they move closer to the culprit. Holschuh tells the story of three couples who sift through the facts to reveal the culprits of the murders that have taken place. Once they have gotten themselves involved, their diligent detective work reveals the truth.

The inspiration to write the story came to Holschuh when he and his wife took a cruise down the Amazon River. He sought to write the first murder mystery set on a cruise ship. The outcome was The Piranha Syndrome, where he models characters Kathi and photojournalist Steve Roberts after himself and his wife. He also models his main characters after two other couples, who were their close companions aboard the ship. “This is the tale of a real voyage with added sinister embellishments,” he writes.
Holschuh wrote The Piranha Syndrome to show that one cannot get away with murder, as well as to show that cruises provide wonderful opportunities for the traveler. The author hopes the book will keep every reader guessing until the end.
