Nothing but Newborn: A First-month Primer for Parents by Janet A. Stockheim, M.D. is an examination of the essential guidelines for taking care of a newborn

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- December 30, 2008 -- Nothing but Newborn: A First-month Primer for Parents, a new book by pediatrician Janet A. Stockheim, M.D., is an inspection of the necessary care of a newborn within the first month, from standard hospital care to the parent’s lists of duties.

According to the author, modern two- to three-day post-partum hospital stays are too brief, leaving many new mothers uncomfortable and unsure of the care required by their newborns. Applying her medical experience, as well as her maternal experience with her own three children, Stockheim seeks to inform parents of what they can expect in the transition from in utero development to life outside of the womb.

As documented in her book, Stockheim details key issues related to the newborn such as safety, cleaning and feeding choices. Stockheim was inspired to write her book by the constant and predictable questions her new patients’ parents asked. She intends for her book to be simple and concise, in a format that new mothers can read quickly.

Stockheim wrote Nothing but Newborn: A First-month Primer for Parents as a fresh approach to understanding the reasons behind the newborn’s needs, which she felt was not conveyed in most available resources. She hopes for it to be as informative as it is insightful.
