Wrongful death - Asbestos lawsuit
Dallas, TX (Asbestos.com): Roger and John Holmes, sons of Jean Holmes filed a lawsuit after the death of their mother for wrongful death, loss of income, medical expenditures, pain and suffering arising out of the mesothelioma cancer that their mother contracted while laundering her husband’s work clothes who used to work for Union Asbestos and Rubber Company between 1962 and 1963.
Jean got secondhand exposure to asbestos and she was unaware of the health hazards associated with asbestos exposure. The court ruled in favor of Jean Holme’s sons citing that Jeans husband too was not pre warned about the risks involved with exposure to asbestos. The jury took 2 1/2 hours to decide the case where the lawyers claimed that the defendants including the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company suppressed the information about dangers of exposure to asbestos.
Deceased Jean Holmes and her sons were awarded $2.6 million as compensation.
