"Notable Starz" Journal Makes Its Debut
New Publication Showcases New England People and Happenings from a Kid's Perspective
/CROMWELL, Conn - August 27, 2008/ -- The editorial staff of a new publication spotlighting New England people, places and events, known as "Notable Starz" is pleased to announce the debut of their August edition.
This comprehensive magazine, complete with color photos, has been developed and created by elementary and middle school students, ages 8 through 13. This journal, which targets the young audience, appeals to adults as well.
"Notable Starz has something for everybody, with article topics ranging from an interview with a Holocaust survivor, an article on the Celebrate India! cultural and sports fest held in July, everyday science facts, to a special crossword puzzle featuring the 2008 Summer Olympic mascots, Fuwas," states Samantha Rosickie, 12, Chief Editor.
The idea of developing the publication came from Geetha Ravichandran, mother of Deepika Ravichandran, 10, one of the writers. "A group of us were done with Summer Camp at the end of July, and my mom suggested to take the experiences we enjoyed over the summer or things we were interested in and use our writing, photography and graphic design skills to put together a journal," says Deepika.
The "Notable Starz" team currently consists of 11 children, doing interviews, research, photography, writing and layout for the newsletter. The premiere volume has 8 articles, and over 2 dozen color photos. This edition is available in print as well as electronically.
Geetha Ravichandran serves as advisor and webmaster for the group.
"The plan is to publish monthly issues of 'Notable Starz'. So we welcome any story ideas that may be of interest to our readers," states Samantha Rosickie. This is one of very few publications of its kind produced exclusively by children our age, and we're eager to publish in future volumes which include the input of the New England community and beyond.
