ImmuneRegen BioSciences Signs Material Transfer Agreement with Celgene Cellular Therapeutics
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--ImmuneRegen BioSciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of IR BioSciences Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB:IRBO), today announced it has finalized a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) with Celgene Cellular Therapeutics (CCT). As part of the agreement, ImmuneRegen will ship its potential therapeutic Homspera(R) to CCT for testing.
Addressing existing complementary product pipelines; Celgene Cellular Therapeutics and ImmuneRegen are exploring opportunities to jointly pursue U.S. government funding in support of their rapid wound healing applications.
CCT will perform testing of Homspera in order to evaluate the potential impact on cellular products in the company's development pipeline. ImmuneRegen believes that Homspera will modify stem/progenitor cell activity which would be of value in multiple therapeutic applications of interest to both companies. In early preclinical testing by ImmuneRegen, Homspera increased the number of white blood cells in circulation following radiation, which may indicate that Homspera can reduce the body's recovery time after radiation treatment for cancer or following unintentional radiation exposure in soldiers, industrial workers or civilians. Initial preclinical studies conducted by ImmuneRegen have also indicated Homspera's effect on the blood-forming tissues in bone marrow and on hematopoietic stem cells, which may also enable its use in the treatment of various cancers.
CCT will explore Homspera's impact when used in conjunction with CCT's human stem/progenitor cell active products and developmental candidates. ImmuneRegen and Celgene have also agreed to explore other opportunities which may lead to complementary product development pipelines.
Further, the intracellular mechanisms mediating Homspera activity following binding on cell surfaces have also been implicated in mechanisms governing gene expression and function, including those reported to be perturbed in many cancers and inflammatory states, including: the proteins regulating the transcription factor NF-kB, inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, interleukins, extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1/2), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and related kinases and phosphatases as well as associated functions such as receptor internalization, β-arrestin binding, receptor recycling and ubiquitination of internalized proteins. These systems are being probed by many pharmaceutical companies, including Celgene, in their search for potential drug candidates.
