HD Channels Launch on CMC's HITS Quantum Service

DENVER--The Comcast Media Center (CMC) announced the launch this month of five HDTV networks on its HITS Quantum all-digital channel lineup: A&E HD, HGTV HD, Food Network HD, Starz HD and Universal HD. The CMC also announced that it has secured transport agreements for offering standard definition feeds of Rainbow Media Holdings' AMC cable network and News Corp.'s Fox News Channel (FNC).

"HD service from HITS Quantum is designed to meet the needs of cable operators requiring a cost-effective alternative to headend-based content management, especially systems serving rural markets," said Gary Traver, COO of Comcast Media Center.

HITS Quantum offers more than 200 digital video and audio services in order to support cable system operators' migration to an all-digital service. The HITS Quantum all-digital platform features secured authorization, optimized DPI triggers and high-quality video and audio.

The CMC's centralized solution for acquiring, encoding, multiplexing and distributing linear channel content allows cable systems serving smaller markets to launch digital video and other advanced services at a fraction of the comparable cost for installing, operating and maintaining headend-based solutions. Its HITS Quantum service continues to support earlier generations of digital video technology, such as 64 QAM and 256 QAM, while adopting newer technologies.
