Zacks Analyst Interview Highlights: Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Millicom International and Reuters
CHICAGO--Zacks.com releases the latest Analyst Interview. Today's interview is with senior analyst Robert Perri, who discusses Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU), Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERIC), Millicom International (Nasdaq: MICC) and Reuters (Nasdaq: RTRSY).
A synopsis of today's Analyst Interview is presented below. The full article can be read at http://at.zacks.com/?id=2678.
What industries in Europe or elsewhere look to be outperforming others?
I cover mainly technology, so most of the ones I've seen where there's been some downside have been in the telcom equipment manufacturers. In the first quarter specifically, neither Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) nor Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERIC) had a great quarter.
On the upside, Millicom International (Nasdaq: MICC) - an international telcom provider - did very well. But they provide services primarily in emerging markets. Another company that did better than expected was Reuters (Nasdaq: RTRSY), the business media company that's sort of tied to the financial services industry, which has done well.
Looking ahead, then, to the end of earnings season and into the first half of 2007, what sorts of things are you looking for, for the companies in your coverage?
I expect things to slow down a little bit in the second and third quarters. What companies are guiding towards, I've noticed, is for slower forward growth in the second quarter, then picking back up in the second half of the year. I tend to be a bit worried about that type of backend-loaded growth, but I do expect things to slow down in the second quarter. And I haven't really decided whether it's truly believable on second-half growth picking up speed.
