New WiQuest Reference Designs Deliver High-Quality Digital Video for PC Wireless Docking(TM) Applications
LAS VEGAS -- WiQuest Communications, Inc., the leading fabless semiconductor company developing complete ultrawideband (UWB) solutions, today announced the availability of the world's first Wireless Docking(TM) solution for PC applications, with its Wireless Docking Station and Mini Card reference design kits. These reference designs are based on WiQuest's WQST100/101 chipset, incorporating WiDV(TM) (Wireless Digital Video) Technology and advanced 1 Gbps data rate for wireless, high-speed transmission of high-quality digital video and PC graphics. In addition to digital video, the reference designs simultaneously connect data peripherals such as printers and storage devices using wireless USB(1). Combined, these two reference designs enable a true wireless office, eliminating the need for all cable connections between a notebook PC and peripherals. WiQuest will be conducting demonstrations of the reference designs this week at the Consumer Electronics Show.
"We are excited by WiQuest's WiDV Technology, and think this combination of wireless video and wireless USB has compelling application in the mobile personal computer market," said Mitsuhiro Taketani, Technology Executive of PC & Network Company, TOSHIBA Corporation. "With WiDV Technology, we can provide more freedom to customers working with mobile PCs."
"PC graphics is the most challenging aspect of the wireless office," said Dr. Matthew B. Shoemake, founder, CEO and president of WiQuest. "Our wireless docking reference design solution, which combines high-quality video with replacement of the USB cable, makes the wireless office a reality. Wireless Digital Video is shipping today."
"These reference design kits coupled with the WiDV Technology are enabling a new market for wireless digital video for PC applications," said Jagdish Rebello, director and principal analyst from iSuppli. "WiQuest has succeeded in enabling a killer app for ultrawideband."
A WiDV-enabled notebook computer simply "coming in range" of the Wireless Docking Station achieves a secure, wireless connection with all of the attached peripherals such as an LCD monitor, printer, external storage, Ethernet network, keyboard, mouse and speakers.
The two reference designs support DVI video displays. The Wireless Docking Station design includes 4 USB ports, one wireless USB association port, an Ethernet port and industry-standard audio. The card is in the PCI Express(TM) Mini Card (50.95mm x 30.00mm) form factor. The hardware and software provide a complete, highly-integrated solution. In addition to the reference designs, the hardware package includes schematics, layout source files, a detailed bill-of-material, design manual and a quick-start guide. The software package includes the WiQuest Control Center (WiCC) application software, device drivers and firmware.
The Mini Card and Wireless Docking Station reference design kits are available now by contacting WiQuest at sales@WiQuest.com.
About WiDV Technology
WiQuest's WiDV Technology uses innovations that enable a high-quality and efficient video transport over the WiMedia UWB wireless link from notebook PCs to monitors, projectors and docking stations. It eliminates the need for DVI or VGA cables in the office or conference room. It operates simultaneously with Wireless USB, providing a complete wireless office experience. It is an optimized architecture that achieves breakthrough video and graphics performance.
The Technology is unique in that it provides high-quality graphics and video by using efficient compression and fewer components in a completely integrated wireless video solution. WiDV Technology gives the consumer the highest quality, lowest cost, lowest latency, smallest form factor and lowest power consumption wireless video solution on the market today.
