Carper Praises Administration’s Electric Vehicle Charging Action Plan

DELAWARE, December 13 - WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Committee on Environment and Public Works, today praised the Biden-Harris Administration’s plan to deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in communities across the country using funds under the recently enacted Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“I’m delighted to see the White House put out a clear roadmap for building a national network of electric vehicle chargers,” said Senator Carper. “We included this funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help meet our shared climate goals, reduce harmful pollution, and foster economic opportunity. The investments we make in charging infrastructure today are going to be critical in the years ahead as more and more Americans make the shift to electric vehicles. That’s why I’m also fighting for more clean transportation provisions in the Build Back Better Act.”

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is the single largest investment in transportation electrification in our nation’s history. Senator Carper successfully secured many of the provisions in this law, including $7.5 billion for EV charging and alternative fueling infrastructure. Estimates predict that this will fund the development of nearly 400,000 new chargers in the years ahead.
