A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of September 20 through 24, 2021, as

"SepticSmart Week" in Pennsylvania to increase awareness of

the importance of proper maintenance and service of on-lot

septic systems.

WHEREAS, More than 25% of Pennsylvanians rely on septic

systems; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's on-lot septic systems are a natural,

environmentally friendly method of treating household water

without straining local waste treatment facilities; and

WHEREAS, Average indoor use of water in a typical single-

family home is approximately 150 to 300 gallons a day and

filters through a septic system where beneficial living

organisms digest and break down the waste; and

WHEREAS, Proper maintenance of an on-lot septic system is

necessary to avoid tens of thousands of dollars in repair costs;

and

WHEREAS, Consumers who do not monitor and maintain their on-

lot septic systems risk overloading the system which can cause

costly repairs resulting in complications when selling the
