Gov. Ricketts’ Independence Day Statement

 

LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts issued the following statement in observance of Independence Day:

 

“Independence Day is a celebration of our country’s freedom and the liberty we love.  As President Reagan famously said, ‘Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.  We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream.  It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.’”

 

“Over the Fourth of July weekend, let’s reflect on these words as we enjoy great food, fellowship, and fireworks displays.  As we turn on our grills and pull out our lawn chairs, I encourage Nebraskans to share the stories of brave patriots, past and present, who’ve sacrificed so much to secure the freedoms we hold dear.”
