Inmate Walks Away from Vallecito Conservation Camp

ANGELS CAMP.— California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are looking for a minimum-security inmate who walked away from Vallecito Conservation Camp (CC#1) in Calaveras County earlier today.

Torrence Weitzel was last seen at approximately 10:20 a.m. during inmate count on Saturday, Aug. 14, and was unaccounted for at around 12:30 p.m. A search of the camp buildings and grounds was immediately conducted. CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety, CAL FIRE, and local law enforcement agencies have been notified and are assisting in the search.

Weitzel, 25, was received by CDCR in March 2021 from Kern County with a five-year sentence for discharging a firearm, buying/receiving stolen property and vehicle theft. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs around 185 lbs. He has blue eyes and blonde hair.

Anyone who sees Weitzel should contact 911 or law enforcement authorities immediately. Anyone having information about or knowledge of the location of Weitzel should contact Vallecito Conservation Camp Sgt. Orpurt at 209-736-4922.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
