On August 31, 2021, Troopers from the Vermont State Police, New Haven Barracks, were notified of property/ trailer damage at a residence on Vermont Route 73 in the Town of Orwell. The vehicle had left the scene and entered onto a private road that leads to Old Foundry Rd. This was a late reported crash believed to be related to the initial crash reported on Old Foundry Rd.

 

An investigation was started, in which Troopers collected car parts left behind and matched them to the crashed vehicle on Old Foundry Rd operated by Perales.

 

A Court Conditions check on Perales also showed active conditions not to operate a motor vehicle. As a result, additional charges were added to Perales citation for the same citation date. Those charges include DUI#2, Leaving a scene of a crash, and violating court conditions.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On August 31, 2021, at approximately 0830 hours, Troopers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash on Old Foundry Rd. in the town of Orwell (VT). Upon the arrival of Troopers, the operator, Michael Perales, was being transported to Porter Medical Center. 

 

During the course of interviewing Perales prior to transport, Perales exhibited indicators of drug impairment. Troopers continued the investigation of DUI-Drug at Porter Medical Center.

Perales was issued a citation to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Addison Criminal Division on October 25, 2021.

 

The Vermont State Police were assisted by Orwell Fire and Rescue, Middlebury Rescue.
