Pierce County dentist’s sedation permit suspended on allegations of substandard care in sedation cases
OLYMPIA -- The Dental Quality Assurance Commission immediately suspended the moderate sedation permit of Pierce County dentist Brant Powell (CS.60035388) pending further legal action.
Charges state Powell practiced outside the scope of his moderate sedation permit and provided substandard care in sedation cases. Allegations say Powell also failed to adequately observe patients after their procedures, did not properly chart patient status and kept inadequate treatment notes. Powell is charged with failing to recognize and treat a complication of the sedation reversal medication.
Powell cannot administer moderate sedation in Washington until the charges are resolved. He has 20 days to respond to the charges and request a hearing.
