The Mezzanine Gallery to Exhibit “One” by Katie Lillard

On view from July 5-26, 2019 Free opening reception on Friday, July 12 at 5 p.m.

Wilmington, Del. (July 8, 2019) – One, an exhibition of paintings and photographs by Middletown artist Katie Lillard will be on view in the Mezzanine Gallery from now through 26, 2019. The artist will host a free opening reception on Friday, July 12 from 5-7 p.m.

Lillard explores procreation and the female experience of childbearing through multi-media sculpture, film, and installation. A mother herself, Lillard balances time in the studio with raising her child and working as a high school art teacher in Centreville, MD. Her work, which has always been rooted in the human life cycle, looks specifically to motherhood for clues to our interconnectivity as a civilization and species.

Lillard’s training in painting as an undergraduate student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts has influenced her formal aesthetic, which she pairs with upcycled materials and found objects.
