Covid-19: Angola gets 700 ventilators

Luanda, ANGOLA, July 3 - Angola already has 700 ventilator to support the fight against Covid-19, recently acquired from China, in an investment from the government, announced last Thursday, the minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.,

In an interview with Public Television of Angola (TPA), the official informed that the equipment, 255 of which are non-invasive, is part of the batch of 544 tonnes of different clinical material ordered to contain the disease, which has already killed 17 people in the country.

 

According to the minister, among the equipment, ninety percent acquired abroad, there are also 12 million masks, an equal number of pairs of gloves, in addition to 170.000 bio-safety kits (suits, gloves, masks, glasses, boots).

 

She reported also the acquisition of 5,000 articulated beds for intensive care, infusion pumps, monitors, in addition to medicines (chloroquine, azithromycin and interferon).

 

 She added that, so far, the process of distributing the equipment is taking place outside Luanda, and the distribution of fans may be delayed in other provinces, due to the need to train local personnel to handle the equipment.

 

She recalled that in the context of the contingency plan drawn up by the government, the Ministry of Health has trained 15,000 technicians in epidemiological surveillance, throughout the country, and 1.000 professionals in intensive care for non-intensive technicians.

 

Despite ensuring the existence of Stock, she admitted that one of the main challenges in fighting the pandemic is the maintenance of laboratory reagents, in the face of international demand, in addition to that there is also need for a platform of high daily testing to counter the current average of 400 samples.

 

However, Sílvia Lutucuta said that after the difficulties encountered in the contacts made in the markets of the United States of America, she is confident that China will be able to give a favourable response in the coming days.

 

The minister  announced that within days serological tests will be carried out in the neighbourhoods where positive cases of Covid-19 have been registered, to determine the degree of antibodies in the target groups and to give a complete response, through laboratory tests.

 

The country registers a total of 315 infected, of which 97 recovered, 201 active and 17 deaths.
