SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On July 2, 2020 Georgia Fire Chief Keith Baker noticed smoke coming from a residence along Ethan Allen Highway in Georgia, VT. Chief Baker checked the residence and found fire in the basement of the unoccupied raised ranch on the southeast corner of the building. When fire crews arrived they were met by flames pushing out of the front windows of the house. The fire was successfully extinguished by the Georgia Fire Department with assistance from the St Albans City and St Albans Town fire departments.
During Chief Baker’s examination of the fire scene he contacted the VT State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit for assistance. Investigators arrived shortly thereafter to assist Chief Baker with the scene examination.
The origin of the fire was determined to be in the basement area near the southeast corner of the building. The unoccupied residence was heavily damaged by the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
