Hoyer Statement on the CBO's Ten-Year Economic Outlook Report
“Today’s updated Economic Outlook by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) should serve as a call to action. CBO unambiguously projects a challenge of unprecedented scale and scope. Even after the extraordinary economic response in the CARES Act, unemployment will remain much higher and economic activity much lower for far longer than should be acceptable to any of us. "That is why it is so confounding that the Trump Administration announced earlier this week that it would forgo the release of the statutorily required Mid-Session Review, which would include its own projections for the economy. The White House’s claim that uncertainty warrants its abandonment of its legal obligation to inform Congress and the American people can only be interpreted as an effort by the President to hide his own economists' poor economic projections in the run-up to November’s election. Sadly, this is the same kind of irresponsible behavior we’ve come to expect from this President and his team, who prioritize their own political fortunes over good governance and the interests of the American people.”
