President swears in new Navy Commander

Luanda, ANGOLA, May 20 - Angolan head of State João Lourenço Monday promoted João Pedro da Cunha Júnior to the rank of Admiral.,

Also Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), João Lourenço appointed  Pedro da Cunha Júnior Commander of the Angolan Navy ( MGA).

The President said he expected the Navy and the other branches (Army and Air Force) to contribute to strengthened capability of FAA.

He said the Armed Forces were crucial for defence of sovereignty of the Angolan State and National Reconciliation, despite of more than 16 years of peace.

In turn, the new Navy Commander described the equipment and training of staff as one of the priorities.

João Pedro da Cunha Júnior takes over from Admiral Francisco José.
