SIEMENS and Amdocs to Offer High-reliability Connected Critical Infrastructure Wireless Solutions based on CBRS

Siemens RUGGEDCOM private broadband wireless solution combined with Amdocs SpectrumONE solution enables mission-critical networks to leverage CBRS shared spectrum to support Electric Utility, Water/Waste Water, Transportation and Industrial IoT Communications Networks

ATLANTA and ST. LOUIS, May 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Siemens, a global technology innovator with leading solutions for intelligent infrastructure, and Amdocs (NASDAQ: DOX), a leading provider of software and services to communications and media companies, today announced the availability of a joint solution to enable mission-critical networks to leverage shared Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum.

Spectrum is a critical, highly valued and scarce resource. To offer new wireless broadband and mobility services and keep up with the increasing demands for coverage and capacity, more spectrum is needed. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) introduced CBRS, which enables shared wireless broadband use within the 3550-3700 MHz (3.5 GHz) band. Designed to support a more efficient use of spectrum, CBRS fosters the development of innovative early use cases, including fixed wireless, network densification, private enterprise networks, industrial IoT, last mile to building, point-to-point connectivity and more.

By leveraging the Siemens solution with the Amdocs Spectrum Access System (SAS), CBRS enables a lower cost of entry into supporting mobility, augmenting Wi-Fi coverage and capacity with small cells, in remote or temporary industrial locations such as substation automation, self-healing power grids/smart-grid systems and intelligent transportation systems for traffic management and railway control systems.

“Many of Siemens existing customers are already making use of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band and will upgrade their networks to enable them to continue to operate in the CBRS band.  Through Siemens’ joint solution with Amdocs, our customers can be confident that their operations will continue uninterrupted,” said Mike Jabbour, Segment Head, Siemens Communications and Identification. “Furthermore, with the availability of CBRS, we can see new and exciting opportunities for our combined solution to support the trend towards more intelligent critical infrastructure communication systems.”

“The release of this newly shared spectrum has created new business opportunities for solution providers like Siemens,” said Anthony Goonetilleke, group president of Media, Network and Technology, Amdocs. “Yet to maximize these opportunities, it takes the combination of a qualified and experienced FCC certified partner for SAS Services with deep experience in mission-critical, self-healing and optimizing networks and an extensive portfolio of network and spectrum solutions, to meet the operator’s demands for a cost-effective, low-risk end-to-end CBRS solution.”
