Luanda, ANGOLA, May 9 - The municipality of Catumbela in the southern province of Benguela, will host this year the military exercises of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), known as "Felino", announced Wednesday the chief of staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) Egídio de Sousa e Santos.,

The official was speaking at a meeting with the heads of the different branches and services of the armed forces, as well as high military patents, at a meeting that aimed to prepare the 18th edition of the exercises of the community.

He said the exercises are aimed at preparing a staff and a joint task force capable of participating in peacekeeping and humanitarian relief missions.

According to the official the theme of the exercises "Feline"  of the cycle 2018/2019 is "a peacekeeping and humanitarian aid operation", which will be carried out on the ground by a force composed of subunits from Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor.

The Army General considered important the ongoing preparation of the armed forces in operations to respond to possible natural disasters, catastrophes and calamities.

Egídio de Sousa e Santos praised Angolan participation in previous missions such as peacekeeping in the Kingdom of Lesotho, in Mozambique to help the victims of the cyclone "Idai" and to host refugees from neighboring countries such as the DRC.

The last edition (17th) of the Feline Exercise was held on September, 2017 at the Agulhas Negras Military Academy (AMAN), in Resende, in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.
