WB pledges support for local governments in Angola

Lubango, ANGOLA, May 7 - World Bank will support the process of administrative decentralisation underway in the country and help in the creation of local authorities in Angola. ,

 

This was announced Tuesday in Lubango, southern Huila province, by an expert in management and public finance of that financial institution, Nicoletta Feruglio.

Feruglio, who was received in audience by the acting local governor, Nuno Mahapi, did not specify the kind of support.

She added that in a first phase the work will be focused on identification and collection of information on the areas and themes included in the decentralisation project

"The geographical coverage is not yet clear. We are waiting for the National Assembly to decide how the process and its criteria will be performed, as well as the municipalities that will gradually be included in the second phase, "she added.  

According to Nicoletta Feruglio, the intention is to understand the reality of the country, stressing that it is the third time that she visits Angola. The experts had already been in the provinces of Bengo and Luanda.  

In turn, the governor-in-office of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, underlined the difficulties linked to the drought that the province faces in the areas linked to the Calahari project in the municipality of Gambos in southern Chibia and Matala.
