Luanda, ANGOLA, April 30 - Angola will host the next meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) in July this year, in Luanda. ,

The fact was announced Tuesday by the organisation's executive secretary, Francisco Ribeiro Telles.

Telles said so to the press at the end of an audience with the Parliament Speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, adding that the country will also host its headquarters.

The CPLP official also spoke of strong desire of Angolan National Assembly Speaker to work on strengthening ties in this field among the countries of the organisation.

On his first official visit to Angola, since taking up the position of the executive secretariat of the organisation in June 2018, Francisco Telles said that the meeting also served to analyse matters related to strengthening of parliamentary cooperation in the CPLP.  

On the decision to host the organisation’s headquarters in the country, the official said that the decision meets the fact that Angola has taken key steps toward building democracy and became a reference within the CPLP regarding democratic principles.  

In turn, the president of the 3rd Committee of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Community Abroad, Josefina Diakité, underlined the importance of  relationship,  and predicted an increased business and economic cooperation among member states.

Angola takes over the organisattion’s chair in 2020, taking over from Cabo Verde, at the leadership of the organisation since June 2018.

CPLP comprises Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor Leste.

The two-day visit of  Francisco Teles also features meetings with various figures.
