Attorney general highlights PGR key role

Luanda, ANGOLA, April 27 - The Attorney General, Hélder Pitta Gróz, on Friday in Luanda highlighted the crucial role played by the institution in the new reality of the country, in the light of the new Criminal Code in the process of enactment, and the Law on Coercive Repatriation and Extended Loss of Goods.,

Speaking at the end of legality week, in the framework of the 40th anniversary of the institution, the official said that the Attorney General's Office (PGR), as a judicial authority for judicial review, plays a key role in the new legal reality.

He considered that the recent adoption of important legislation, such as the Law on Coercive Repatriation and Excessive Loss of Goods (Law no. 15/18 of 26 December), already in force, and the enacted Criminal Code, carry with them responsibilities for the PGR.

Committed to the challenges of the future, said Hélder Pitta Gróz, the institution is undergoing a process of restructuring, both from the perspective of newly created internal organs such as the Office of Advice and Inquiry and the National Asset Recovery Service, as well as from the perspective of bodies and structures to be built.

He assumed that cooperation, more than a mere formality, is proving to be a real and growing need, "if only because the PGR is the central authority for international judicial cooperation in criminal matters."
