MPLA beefs up anti-corruption crackdown

Luanda, ANGOLA, April 21 - The deputy president of Angola’s governing MPLA party Luísa Damião has described the corruption a heinous crime that must be fought without respite, stressing that the time has come to cut and break the bad practices.,

The politician said so at the launch of the ruling party's moralising campaign held Saturday in Luanda.

The MPLA official considered crucial, in this new cycle of governance, to combine efforts around the fight against corruption, nepotism, impunity and flattery.

Regretting that the corruption-related financial or material resources became a public shame, the MPLA official called on her party to take the lead in the crusade against this evil.  

"The money does not belong to us, but to the people’s  public interests, stated the politician, adding that the country needs genuine patriots, men and women who defend noble causes and available to turn the page and stop navigating in impunity.

Fight against corruption is being taken seriously, warned the official, noting that the leadership of the party is aware of the interpretations and malaise that combat the phenomenon may cause among people. "The objective is to attacking and destroying evil, not targeting people themselves", she added  

According to Luísa Damião, the fight against corruption, implemented by Government Programme, is part of MPLA commitment aimed, not only to achieve the votes from the voters or a campaign flag, but to accomplish the long-standing desire.
