Hoyer Remarks at Enrollment Ceremony for Yemen War Powers Resolution

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) joined House Democratic leadership, Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17), Rules Chairman Rep. Jim McGovern (MA-02), Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Mark Pocan (WI-02), and Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) today for the enrollment ceremony of a resolution ending U.S. involvement in Yemen’s civil war. Below is a photo and transcript of his remarks:   “I want to congratulate Mr. Khanna, specifically, for his leadership, Mrs. Jayapal, and Mr. Pocan.

“…Save the Children thinks as many as 22 million people will be at risk of starvation from the inability to get food delivered to people who need food, or medicine, or humanitarian relief, and this poses a challenge to the international community. And this is an important step for us to take to say, that this cannot go on, it must not go on. We must not facilitate this continuing threat to millions of people and their lives and well-being.

“So, again we’ve had a very good vote on this, and it was a very positive vote, the Senate has passed it as well with a majority vote, and I would hope the President of the United States would concur with the majority of the United States Senate and a bipartisan vote and the majority of the House of Representatives with a bipartisan vote and sign this bill.”
