Luanda, ANGOLA, March 27 - A diplomatic source has dismissed allegations that US Undersecretary of State John Sullivan has demanded the Angolan government to keep itself away from China and Russia. ,

 

The weekly news paper “Valor Economic”, in its Monday (March 25) Edition, also published that the US official has requested the Angolan government to recognition  Venezuela's self-proclaimed president Juan Guaidó.

 

The Angolan diplomatic source told ANGOP that Sullivan "did not address the issue related to Venezuela during the meeting with the Angolan President, nor did he make any demands on China and Russia."  

The source added that US Undersecretary of State reaffirmed his country’s willingness to participate in efforts to diversify the Angolan economy and also praised the fight against corruption and morale-boost exercise of the society undertaken by President João Lourenço.

The Valor Economico published in its last Edition four pages on this subject, including an editorial, in which it accuses the current Angolan Government of having made a supposed "diplomatic turn", moving away from China and embarking on a greater rapprochement with the West.  

Valor Economico also alleged that this is the reason why in his visit to Beijing in October last year, João Lourenço received "only" USD 6.1 billion, instead of the expected USD 11 billion.  

In the four pages dedicated to the issues, the weekly does not reproduce any reactions of the Angolan authorities. Valor Econômico belongs to GEM Angola Global Media, which, according to ANGOP sources, has links to political-business sectors, whose interests are being questioned by the new government.
