SADC region with parliament starting next August

Luanda, ANGOLA, March 17 - The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will count with its regional parliament in August, in compliance with the recommendation of the last session of the Council of Ministers of this body, held on 15 and 16 this month in the capital of the Republic of Namibia.,

According to Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto, at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, speaking to the press on Saturday, in the context of the SADC Council of Ministers meeting, held under the motto "Youth and its role in the region" the meeting recommended the transformation of the Parliamentary Forum into the Regional Parliament.

"This decision will indeed take effect at the next SADC Heads of State Summit next August also in Windhoek. This issue comes from the last summit. Angola has worked very hard through its parliament at the time as chair of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, "he stressed.

Among other issues, this regular session discussed issues that have to do with youth and especially the process of industrialization in the region.

Political transition processes in DRC, Zimbabwe and Lesotho were also discussed at the meeting.

Also discussed were the reports of the conference in solidarity with the Western Sahara Republic as well as the regional organization of Southern Africa Tourism.

The delegation was headed by Manuel Augusto, Neto Costa, Secretary of State for Planning, Beatriz Morais, Angolan ambassador to Botswana, Nazaré Salvador, SADC National Secretary, Rui Livramento, director of the Foreign Relations office of the Ministry of Commerce, and Manuel Pedro, director of the Office of Exchange of the Ministry of Finance.
