Latest News: Apply for Curriculum Grants

The Library of Congress today announced that up to $1.5 million will be provided to one or more organizations to support the development of curricula, instructional materials and apps/online interactives featuring Library of Congress online resources.

The application deadline is April 22, 2019. For more information about the application requirements and selection criteria, see the “Notice of Funds Availability” at loc.gov/teachers/newsevents/.

The selected organizations will work with the Library’s Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program to use and incorporate not only its online primary sources but also the many other resources available online from the Library of Congress.

Coursework, Curriculum and Educational Strategies

  • Curriculum that combines the use of Library primary sources with accepted pedagogy and standards used to teach in a specific curricular area(s);
  • Mobile app or online interactive for use in K-12 education using the Library’s digital primary sources and other online resources; or
  • Instructional materials suitable for use in teacher professional development that support the effective use of Library primary sources in K-12

A wide range of organizations are eligible to apply, including public, private, not-for profit and for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, library services, cultural institutions and other collaborative partnerships (such as an organization with content expertise paired with an organization possessing technological expertise).

Applicants should have the network and organizational structure necessary to facilitate national dissemination of products created under this grant.

The maximum for any individual award is $500,000 for a 12-month period. There is no minimum award amount. Individual funding levels will depend on the content and quality of applications and the number of applications received. The grants will support program activities for 12 months, from October 2019 through September 2020.

All selected grantees will become part of the Library's Teaching with Primary Sources Educational Consortium. To learn more about the TPS Educational Consortium, and current members and their projects, visit loc.gov/teachers/tps/consortium/.

For more than a decade, the TPS program has provided extensive professional-development opportunities for educators and enabled the development and dissemination of teaching materials focused on using the Library’s digitized primary sources.

This program reflects advancement toward a goal in the Library’s new user-centered strategic plan: to expand access by making unique collections, experts and services available when, where and how users need them.
